Glasgow Visit (notes)

The following text is directly transcribed from the notebook I had with me on the day we visited Glasgow to conduct research for our upcoming essay submission.

  • “Cultural democracy” rather than “democratized culture”
  • Sharon Hayes (artist who uses text in her work)
  • Plan for the Pipe Factory: use space as skill sharing / tool sharing / drop-in bricolage / fixing center; “office hours” model with rotating selection of artists / makers / hosts / “experts”. Identify and involve locals e.g. Barrowlands residents / workers who might both use the resource AND share their own skills / resources.
  • Also things like proof-reading, job applications etc. Drop in “fixing station”. An “open-mic” exhibition model? A “swap shop” exhibition model? Artist / expert “Q&A”?
  • This should be done without taking away business from vulnerable / precarious local residents / service providers / businesses
