The Earliest Graduates Study
We are excited to tell you about the earliest graduates study, a project that will capture the experiences of graduates, and a small number of staff, from Nursing Studies at Edinburgh University. One graduate from each year between 1960 and 1970 has been invited to participate in a telephone interview, and correspondence, to describe their experiences as students and the impact of a university education on their subsequent careers.
The study is being carried out by Daniel Kelly, Edinburgh graduate, RCN Professor and Honorary Professorial Fellow in Nursing Studies, it is supported by the Monica Baly Award for Nursing History from the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.
Daniel has said “As the first university department of nursing in the UK, these insights have revealed the pioneering character of early students and the staff who supported them”.
This project has also been nominated for an award by the RCN Foundation and will report in 2019 so we will keep you up-to-date with the findings and outcomes!
