Workshop 2 (8 Mar 23)
The second Musical Pathways workshop took place this week.
Open to students on all Music subject area programmes at any year of study, this informal session provided direct and practical information to address the topics that students identified in Workshop 1 last November (read about that here).
The introductory presentation by Gina shared a rich new compilation of music-focused careers guidance and resources.
We heard two great presentations from guest industry speakers, David Culbert (Help Musicians) and Louise Stanners-Pow (Musicians Union). David and Louise each gave a run-down of the advice, resources and benefits offered by their respective organisations. If you don’t already know about the essential professional support that these two organisations provide, follow the links!
It was great to hear Mark’s seasoned, musicians-eye view of the value of these organisations and the views of some student participants who have begun to access the benefits. These include access to legal advocacy, advice on setting fees for freelance performers or other music professionals, and access to specific occupational health support, including heavily discounted custom-made hearing protection (endorsed also by Music’s very own Martin Parker).
Gina’s drop-in careers surgery after the workshop was very well attended.
Slides from all three presentations to be posted here soon.
