Year 5 Careers Fair: Royal College of General Practitioners

Representing the Royal College of General Practitioners are Dr Ed Russell-Smith, Dr Susan Arnold and Dr Juanlyn Ang.

Dr Ed Russell-Smith

Dr Ed Russell-Smith Dr Ed Russell-Smith has been a local GP in West Lothian for 25 years.  Starting in partnership, he formed a new single-handed Practice as a result of population growth, and then took over a smaller Practice some years later, building a team of salaried clinicians. As a holistic generalist, he enjoys the challenge of un-triaged patients, young and old, with conditions drawn from every speciality & system.

Mental health is a particular interest, along with treating patients in the context of their family, work and socio-economic situation. He also performs Minor Surgery. Entrepreneurial skills led him to build a new Health Centre and attached Pharmacy, and then to develop an adjacent site into retail units. Ed feels privileged to know his community intimately, and he still enjoys the day-to-day work as part of a supportive team.

Dr Susan Arnold

Dr Susan ArnoldDr Susan Arnold qualified as a GP in 2008 and works as a partner in a central Edinburgh practice where she is also a GP educational supervisor. She has previously worked as a locum, salaried GP, out-of-hours GP and even as a doctor on a medical boat on the Amazon.

Susan enjoys the variety and continuity of care that general practice brings.

Outside of work she is a keen runner and plays the cello in a number of ensembles.
