Year 3 medical student Aya Riad accepts our challenge to identify her top 5 spots for brunch in Edinburgh.
Aim: To establish the best places to have a wholesome and aesthetic brunch in Edinburgh.
Methods: A retrospective study where different cafes around Edinburgh were sampled by a third year medical student and anyone she can drag with her. Most comparisons were made based on quality of avo toast.
Results:
The Pantry
A bit of a trek all the way to Stockbridge but completely worth it as a weekend treat. Lovely atmosphere and top notch brunch – try the U.S.A and waffles. Rumor has it this spot has been frequented by the likes of Michael Fassbender.
Cairngorm
Another New Town café, good after a day on Princes Street. Gets extremely busy at lunch time but very aesthetic on a sunny day and lovely staff. Has a great lunch menu and banana bread is baked to order.
Soderberg
An absolute classic. If you’re in a rush grab a quick coffee (make sure you get a loyalty card because you will be back) and cardamom bun. But if you have a bit of time, go into the bigger one in Quartermile for some stonebaked pizza or a tartine.
Southpour
Extremely aesthetic. Nice brunch menu and can even transition into a dinner venue.
Machina
A bit of a rogue one. Tiny so might not get a table, but great food menu and best latte art around.
Conclusion:
Further brunching is needed to make these results generalizable to the whole population.
