Most people benefitted from finally having some stability in their lives, a dry place to sleep and nutritious food daily. But despite the great efforts of frontline workers which practically eradicated rough sleeping in Edinburgh, some people did find themselves back on the streets. The confinement indoors was problematic for some people’s mental health and it is important to understand that solving homelessness is not just about giving people a roof over their heads – people might struggle with trauma that makes it difficult for them to feel safe and comfortable.
