Take Part!
Are you a UK teacher who teaches or has previously taught literacy in upper primary or lower secondary school?
The Move & Read Project is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow, which aims to co-develop with teachers a programme of activities for literacy that are physically active and that align with the learning content (a concept called embodied cognition). Move & Read has previously focused on literacy in the early years (see here for more info)and has successfully developed some guidelines on how to start incorporating embodied and physically active learning activities in the classroom. We are now aiming to develop this work further to include upper primary and lower secondary school stages (approx. ages 8 – 14; second and third level in Curriculum for Excellence).
We are looking to hear from teachers who teach literacy or have taught literacy in the past to children in these years to gather opinions and thoughts to help us develop this next stage of the Move & Read Project. We are looking for participants to take part in a short online survey (roughly 15 minutes) on teaching literacy, physical activity, and embodied cognition. All participants will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win 1 of 3 £50 Love2Shop vouchers as a token of our appreciation for taking part.
There will also be an additional opportunity to take part in a focus group (either online or in-person) to further share your thoughts around literacy activities – this is completely optional and you can sign up via the survey. Participants who engage in the focus group will receive Love2Shop vouchers (£10/ hour)
