My Gakuensai Experience –
Before I attended and participated in this gakuensai, I had never heard of it before. It was interesting to learn about a part of another country’s student culture. When preparing for gakuensai and doing interviews with Japanese students, it was apparent that it was a very big event in Japanese universities. Clubs organise stalls to showcase themselves to the whole campus and there are many different activities. Unlike gakuensai in japan, we didn’t have a firework display or stage performances, it was much smaller scale. Our gakuensai was smaller but we did have some similar types of things they have in japan. When I got there, I helped set up our stall and was curious as to what others had prepared. There was a lot of Japanese food and snacks, and there were drinks too. There was music so some people were singing and dancing as part of the stalls, and there were a lot of different and interesting games to play and rewards which you could get if you won. I really enjoyed the event. I met new people and tried new things. In the future, I would like to experience gakuensai in Japan to see what it will be like.
