Welcome to Intermediality: Literature, Film and the Arts in Dialogue, MSc-PhD Programmes and Research Strand

MSc Programme and Research Strand at the University of Edinburgh

exploring the intersections between art forms

across different periods and cultures

Welcome to the virtual platform for our MSc in Intermediality Studies, PhD in Intermediality and Intermediality Research Strand. Based in a world-leading festival city, our Intermediality MSc and PhD programmes draw on the expertise of research-active teaching staff from across the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures (LLC) and Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). The research strand brings together academics, research students, and practitioners to explore the interactions between art forms and media such as literature, film, photography, painting, music, dance and theatre across different periods and cultures. As part of this cross-cultural collaborative ethos, our research strand includes a Research Partnership in Intermedia Studies with Meiji University in Tokyo.

Here you will be able to find further information about the MSc and PhD programmes; blog posts from our students; events organised by and for them; a cultural map of intermedial venues in our host city, Edinburgh; and updates about our research strand, including events held alternatingly in Edinburgh and Tokyo as part of our Research Partnership in Intermedia Studies with Meiji University. While exploring our digital venue, we invite you to listen to the collaborative playlist in which staff members and students have included their favourite intermedial melodies to accompany you in your visit:
