About Me

Hello!

My name is Valeria Lembo (she/her) and I am a PhD student in Health in Social Science at the University of Edinburgh.

In 2018 I have been awarded a scholarship by the ECRED Centre (Edinburgh Centre for Research on the Experience of the Dementia) of the University of Edinburgh,  with whom I have been working since.

My background is in Language, Literature and Translation (BA) and Social Anthropology (MA). I am also an amateur photographer and musician, and joined several performing arts groups, workshops and projects since 2007.

I am particularly interested in the potential of the arts for fostering social change, building communities and improving wellbeing, especially for people living with and affected by dementia.

My main research methodologies are ‘ethnography’ and ‘participant observation’. This means I spend time with my research participants doing things together and trying to learn from them. I also use interviews and art-based research methods.

This is my first ‘digital ethnography’. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I plan to use online-based methods only.
