Hello everyone!
My name is Vivian, a recent addition to this blogging group. As new people do, let me give a quick self-introduction.
I’m a Canadian girl, born in China but grew up in Singapore. I started the 4 Year Graduate Entry Programme (GEP) in August 2018, and am now in the third year (2nd year GEP) of the program.
Vet school has been an amazing ride so far, last year flew by so fast I still can’t believe I’m already halfway through my second year here!
A typical day for me so far: lectures in the morning, lunch break, practicals or lectures in the afternoon, and home at around 3pm. In these 4 months, we’ve done our pathology and clinical foundation modules, which provides us with basic clinical knowledge we would need as future vets.
We’ve gone over various systems’ pathologies, as well as basic principles of anaesthesia, pharmacology, surgery, oncology, imaging and evidence based veterinary medicine. It was quite a change of pace from first year. But as challenging as it was, I enjoyed learning these foundation skills and knowledge, and found anaesthesiology most fascinating.
While I really genuinely enjoy the modules, the amount of material can be quite daunting and overwhelming at times. As important as it is to keep up with school work, I do take time off to wander around Edinburgh to help me relax. Here I present you with some of my favourite spots:
1. The botanical garden here in Edinburgh is incredibly beautiful. To make it better, its scenery changes with the seasons, so there’s something new to see every time!
2. I enjoy strolling around Princes Street and in the Princes Street Garden. Not only does it have an amazing view of the Edinburgh Castle, but there are also so many amazing shops around!
3. The Edinburgh Christmas market is my go-to spot during the festive season. The lights, music, food and atmosphere of the place really does wonders for my exam stress.
I hope that you enjoyed reading this short blurb, and that it gave you a little glimpse into my life as a R(D)SVS student.
Till next time!
Viv.
