Hi everyone!

It doesn’t matter if you’re new-ish to the Vet School or you can’t wait to graduate, I hope that what you’re going to read will put you at ease about surviving through vet school.

First, a little bit about myself. I am from Malaysia and currently in my fourth year. As most of you will already know, fourth year is all about farm animals. I am actually someone who has had their mind set on becoming a small animal clinician from first year so I thought it would be an unbearable year for me. I was totally wrong! Definitely a big shout out to all the lecturers who have always given their best to make the teaching environment interactive and friendly. I’m definitely enjoying the course more than I thought I would. Although the thought of going into final year in less than 6 months time scares me, I’ll try to enjoy the time left in the vet school before graduation. (If I make it to graduation – fingers crossed!)

A class that I found particularly fascinating was the practical class where we were taught to rectal examine cows for pregnancy diagnosis. Before I started vet school, I had never imagined that one day I would have to stick my hand into a cow’s rectum. Hope I haven’t scared anyone who didn’t realise they would have to do this. It’s a useful technique to master.

A typical day in the vet school is mostly about attending the lectures, practicals and tutorials that have been scheduled for me. I usually try to get most of my work done during the week days (it doesn’t happen all the time) so I have more time during the weekend to catch up with my friends from other courses. I find that getting things planned ahead really helps to push myself to do things outside of the vet school. I’m the type of person who always says ‘I’ll try it when I’m free’. And you don’t realise how fast time flies until you’re just one week away from the end of the semester. So I’d strongly encourage everyone who is reading this now to try out something new in this coming week. Be it just eating out in a new restaurant or picking up a new sport; it can be anything!

Thank you so much for reading my blog to the end. I hope you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for my next blog which is going to be about preparation for exams and my plans for Christmas break. Got to go to prepare for my coming finals. Good luck everyone!
