Patchwork Girl (1995) is a piece of electronic literature rendered in hypertext by Shelly Jackson. Composed by piecing together original text and images, along with quotes, borrowed fictional characters, fictional lives of real people, and stories, it gives life to those whose bodies were used to create the companion to Frankenstein’s ‘monster’.
The reader takes their own path through the work, bringing with them their views on the themes raised and what they want to read (in what order) or ignore. Who is the author of the story you read? How do we understand ownership? To whom or what do we give credit?
