CFP: 1945/2025. Reflections on the Second World War
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the formal end of the Second World War. The Second World War Network (Scotland) will be marking this occasion by hosting a one-day colloquium which aims to capture the latest research on the war and bring together international scholars undertaking research on all aspects of this global conflict. The colloquium will provide a space for researchers at all stages of their career to showcase and discuss their scholarship in the field of Second World War Studies. We therefore invite paper proposals on themes including, but not limited to:
Military service and cultures, civilian/non-combatant experience, imperial spaces, captivity, the construction of identities (national, gender, race, class), commemoration and memorialisation, global histories, Holocaust Studies, space and place, the environment, and the legacies of the war.
Postgraduate and Early Careers Researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. With this is mind, there will be only a nominal registration fee.
Paper proposals should include an abstract of no more than 250 words and a one-page CV. Panel proposals for groups of three to four speakers are also welcomed; they should, in addition to
individual paper abstracts and CVs, include a brief description of the panel theme (no more than 500 words). The deadline for proposal submissions is 6 December 2024. Submissions should be sent to Professor Wendy Ugolini at wendy.ugolini@ed.ac.uk.
