Peer Review’s Question

Thank you for reviewing my blog:

What would be the elements that attract you to participate the workshop?

Do you have any depth suggestions to improve the practices, or the concepts?

Hello Tianai. It’s great to have the opportunity to learn about your project and review your portfolio.

First of all, your topic ‘Play’ is very interesting and was inspired by last semester’s course, and it was very fortunate that we worked together as a group to develop this project last semester. I have also seen your thinking on the topic, your understanding of ‘play’, background research, seven types of rhetoric of play and anthropologist Turner’s views on text and language. In week 8 you analysed John Cage’s performance of Silence and Water Walk and extended this to your own project. These provided good theoretical support for your project. You mentioned your values: “Art is equal for everyone” and the aim “Seeks to make art fairer”. This made me think about the issue of equality in art and education. For example, last term I researched ‘Beyond Him and Visual’ and found that artists who create non-visual artworks can empower visually impaired people, a minority group, to enjoy artworks and also advance the concept of ‘art fairness’ for visually impaired people, thus promoting their rights. This also promotes the concept of ‘artistic affirmation’ for the visually impaired community, thus promoting their inclusion in society. I think it would be a deeper theoretical development for your project if you could extend some of the learning and inclusion of minorities in the arts related to your project to further the concept of affirmative action in the arts.

Secondly, you have shown great attention to detail and public engagement. Because in the individual project plan you mentioned that you plan to produce and print some souvenir products such as postcards, canvas bags, craft wooden bracelets and necklaces. At the end of the exhibition, people will be able to take these souvenirs with them, which will not only attract more visitors to your project, but will also impress those who have participated in the project. It would be great if you could continue to develop and design these souvenirs, but also consider the time and material costs of making these items. In your week eight entry, I saw the event post you created for your project, which is a really great way to promote your project. In your week 10 entry, you took inspiration from the ‘drinkable book’ to create and design your own book project. However, it is unclear why and how the environmental project provided an element of inspiration for your project, and how and what kind of inspiration the drinkable book provided for your project, or you could explain further. However, your idea of making a book reminds me of a project in the week 8 reading material: Impact Arts –https://www.impactarts.co.uk/news/blog/velcro-poetry-project/. Their project also involves performance, recording etc. Perhaps you could look at this project and refer to it.

You then showed a strong ability to think critically. In your week 10 Blog you critically reflected on the dilemma. You were able to identify the challenging aspects of your exhibition and try to make a plan to correspond with them. This is a very good process for developing your project.

Finally, you contributed to the collective assessment with the floor maps of everyone’s exhibition, which was very helpful for visitors to find each student’s exhibition during the exhibition. Thank you for your efforts.

All in all, your project was really interesting and your portfolio shows your efforts and working process. I am really looking forward to your exhibition.
