Week 9
In this week, I learned to use the materials tool to apply textures to my model. I selected a material from the default library and apply it on a cube. After that, by right clicking it and select texture – position, I arranged and set it with four different pins. The red pin allows me to drag and move the texture sheet into a certain location, the green pin allows me to scale and rotate the texture plate, the blue pin provides me the ability to sheer and scale the texture and the yellow pin allows me to distort the texture. By using these four pins together, I can edit and display certain part of the texture. After experimenting the default textures and the pins, I learned to edit a certain texture in the default tray. Various custom options such as the color of the texture, size of the pattern and the opacity of the texture can be changed, this can be useful when importing a new unedited texture to my model.
As I already learned how to edit and apply textures from the default library, I tried to import new textures into my model as the textures I chose is more suitable. I first searched and downloaded a JPG file texture, then by using the import function in Sketchup, I imported this JPG and convert it into a texture plate. After editing it in the default tray, I successfully applied it into my model.
