Week8#Seminar on Tuesday and Thursday

Part I: Group Discussion – Exhibition Format and Vision

Today we had a discussion in a new group about the methodology and objectives of our exhibition.

My exhibition is related to people and the environment, and my interaction with the audience takes the form of enabling them to interact and participate in the exhibition through their audio-visual senses. My vision is that each visitor will be able to reflect on the idea of equality between man and nature in the process. In my exhibition, the main form of audience participation will be the creation of an audio-visual environment. I have rented projectors, curtains and other equipment from ECA bookit. I will turn off the lights in the room and cooperate with narration speakers, etc. , let the audience participate in the exhibition through sensory experience, so as to open their thinking about the environment in this space I created.

In my group, Zhiqian’s IDEAL is to showcase people’s childhood memories and will include some toys, pictures, videos, and sounds from childhood radio, while she will have some snacks on hand, which I think is great.

Xiaotong’s exhibition is themed around play and time, mainly through different games and videos to illustrate her belief that people play at different ages and have different meanings while calling for people to return life to its true simplicity.

The theme of Chang Yu’s exhibition is life and death, and in her exhibition, she will show stories and video clips of real-life examples to provoke deep thoughts on life and death.

In this seminar, I realized that there are some exhibition texts that we have not practiced in our previous experience, and some writing styles, accuracy of words, etc. need us to revise again and again.

Part II: Determine a separate division of labor for each individual

In today’s personal division of labor, Borui, Ruxue and Chenyan and I are responsible for creating our guide map and text tour information, we have just decided on a time to discuss this together this week and we will finalize the division of labor in this week’s discussion, which I will then synchronize in my blog.

Part III: Jake’s tutorial review

Today I had a tutorial with Jake, I talked to him about the current situation I am planning to curate, I explained to him the four artists I have found so far and the atmosphere I am trying to present in my art exhibition, Jake asked me about my needs for a venue and will help me to follow up, I am very grateful. Afterwards, I asked Jake how I could improve the details of the interaction with the audience in the exhibition and Jake suggested that I could create some kind of website where I could communicate with the audience so that they could make their own suggestions or comments.

As for the progress of my own exhibition, I have agreed with several artists to hold an exhibition at the ECA on 19 or 20 April. I have already found two projectors for myself and I will be renting two TV screens from the ECA hire website to scroll through the videos of the artists I need, as well as exploring the possibility of transporting an interactive installation by a London artist to Edinburgh.

In addition to this, I am also editing and writing a description of my solo exhibition, as Beth said in today’s class that we each need to write a concise 25-word introduction to our exhibition, which I am still thinking about, and I will continue to synchronise my curation in my blog.
