Week6#Seminar with Beth 01

Part I: About the seminar

During this workshop with Beth, we understood the overall content and effect we needed to present in the final curatorial project. In addition to the project book, we needed to develop our own individual and group timetables and to refine some of the division of labour within the group.
At the beginning of the session, we were first shared an excel file containing our individual projects for each of the different colour Basho students, including the name of the final exhibition, what the theme was about, where we were at in the process, and so on.

    • Here is my initial request, I think I will try to ask Dr. JL in the next week if it might be possible to use the ECA exhibition space, as my final exhibition presentation will be mainly in the form of digital media, so I will need some space to show the video and audio.
      • Microcosmic view immersed;
      • Thinking in the confusion of the macro world, paying attention to where we are, where life is;
      • About 1 hour physical exhibition in ECA.
    • We also need to complete a Self-Audit Checklist for Level 1 Ethical Review, which I intend to complete and send to Beth this week.
    • We have obtained a link to miro: https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVPgTDLOU=/
      On this page we can update the subject of our exhibition, its name, whether it is a physical exhibition or not and what our exhibition involves.

      • One flower, one world
        About environment and human beings.

    • In the meantime, we need to complete a 500-800 word curatorial rationale statement by week 8, as well as a peer review report, and my protfolio is open to my peers.
Part II: Update on the progress of my exhibition

      • Physical requirements: Discussions are still ongoing with the artists about the availability of physical space and I need to reconfirm the viability of the ECA equipment rental.
      • Artists’ statements: (In the order of the artists’ names above, I will update this blog with more details in the coming week)
        • 1/ Her work is entitled ‘Do Bionic Flowers Dream of Electronic Gardens’. The artist studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China as an undergraduate, was taught by Professor Qiu Zhijie, who is currently exhibiting at Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh, and graduated last year from UAL with a Masters in Visual Communication.
        • 2/ His work, called ‘Heart of the Flower’, is made by means of a force sensor that, after one presses the petals of a flower, the force sensing is transmitted to the heart of the flower made by electronic devices, which creates a breathing-like contraction.
        • 3/ His work is called “Digital Memory Garden”, a kind of applet similar to the NFT personal work generation. The inspiration for finding this artist came from Jake’s suggestion for my presentation, as I was trying to get the Ai imaging website program involved in my exhibition and Jake thought I would just be able to consider some artists who had designed NFT digital works, which I posted online and a collaboration with this artist was born.
        • 4/ She is from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and her work is called “Flowers in Words”. According to our conversation, I learned that her inspiration comes from traditional Chinese culture. It is well known that Chinese poetry culture has a long history, and one of the poems is called “Blooming Flowers Collection”, which is considered to be the earliest surviving literati poetry collections in China. The theme and style are mainly likes to use words such as gold, diamond to carve and modify, so as to create a mysterious and luxurious environment.
