Week5#The presentation
Thinking about my theme:
Regarding the thinking about the theme, I remember that Dr. JL conveyed a concept to us from the first class: small is beautiful. In daily life, I am a person who pays attention to details. I will pay great attention to those things in the eyes of ordinary people “Small” things, so after the first class, the theme of my final exhibition slowly emerged: the English name is The one, but in Chinese it is called One Flower One World, which originated from Chinese Buddhism, meaning It means that the world of flowers and flowers originated from here, one flower and one grass is the whole world, and the whole world is empty like flowers and plants, to penetrate the mysteries of the universe and reach the realm of Buddhism.
Two parts of my projects:
I divide the content I am trying to present into two parts. The exhibition’s first part is called the original, which is our original space where the entity is located. The other part is called the O world, which refers to the world of consciousness. O looks like a circle Shape, and in Chinese grammar, the pronunciation of circle is the same as the pronunciation of the origin of all things. Therefore, in this O world, I try to combine the world that our spirit yearns with our entity itself, creating a completely In the virtually real world, to explore at which level can we obtain real freedom of soul and body.
THE LINK TO MY PRESENTATION
At present, I think the works of art exhibited in the first part will be mainly images and handicrafts. In the second part, curtains and lights will be used. An immersive experience for the senses.
In the future, I will continue to synchronize my personal exhibition planning content in my personal blog, thank you.
Learning Outcome #1. Research: Identify, engage with, and apply a range of contemporary curatorial methods, practices and theories relevant to the commissioning, production, dissemination and archiving of cultural practices.
What works well –
Jia, this is a thoroughly considered presentation that demonstrates the depth of thinking you have undertaken while working on your project. There is a clarity of focus to your proposal and it is ambitious in its aims
What could be improved –
While the ambition of your proposal is commendable now to consider what is physically feasible within the scope of this project. In terms of the hardware necessary to stage some of your intended production aims will be considerable. You may want to consider how to consolidate your theme into a simpler and potentially more singular curatorial proposition.
Learning Outcome #2: Practice: Working with your peers, commission, produce, disseminate and archive cultural practices, locating your approach in relation to the expanded field of contemporary curatorial theory and practice.
What works well –
You have clearly spent time considering the subject you wish to explore curatorially and the framing of the concept works well. The main issues arise more regarding hard details about where such an exhibition might be hosted? What artists might be involved? Is the exhibition best suited to a gallery space or could it operate more interactively online?
What could be improved –
Listening to your pitch I was reminded of Sebastian Schmieg & Silvio Lorusso’s recent exhibition called ‘A Slice of the Pie’ https://a-slice-of-the-pie.live/ which explored the production and display of multiple NFT artworks within a singular gallery installation. Considering your interest in text to image generation this might be a useful way of thinking through who produces the artworks within your proposed exhibition.
I think you need to firm up your curatorial research into practitioners working in this area already and the formats by which they are exhibiting ideas. You should consider exploring the Transmediale 2023 festival look at what events and exhibitions artists and curators are programming in this area currently https://2023.transmediale.de/en
