This is the first blog post about open and learning. This blog post lets me talk about how I feel about Green Basho, or group work. During my undergraduate years, I had many experiences of group cooperation, but the Green Basho group gave me a completely different experience. This may stem from the determination of the group system.
First and foremost , the format of the group meeting. This group meeting was conducted online and offline. In the beginning, I proposed and created the online meeting number, which was agreed to by the group members. Online to take care of a COVID-19 teammate, others can choose whether to go online or offline. This combination of online and offline is the result of discussion, I think it is very human. We did not have disputes because of the form of meeting, nor did we refuse to participate in the group because of the illness. Instead, we communicate with each other in a more appropriate way, without the interference of distance and illness.

The second, about the discussion. Before the first group meeting, we had already made clear the task to be completed in the meeting on Thursday, and we all uploaded our expectations for the group the day before. The expectation from four different aspects, respectively, is positive, the negative, the ideal and prohibited. Before the meeting, I wrote down the anger and excessive emotion of rejection in the negative column. When we met, we all mentioned the word anger very tacitly. Anger is not a very positive emotion. Anger can make people lose their reason and become too emotional. In group work, the presence of anger is not a good phenomenon. This may be one of the reasons why people use anger as a negative mantra.Fortunately, there is a common understanding of emotions. Positive and effective communication can make the team work smoothly, while anger and unreasonable working style will make the whole team members’ emotions become negative and will greatly affect the team’s work progress and the motivation of group cooperation.

Last but not least, the task of what is gold. “As a field of nothingness, basho allows thoughts to arise, an act which from the side of the individual consciousness is referred to as “intellectual intuition,” but these conceptual bits cut out from pure experience do no damage to the field, since the field is nothingness, just as the pictures or words “displayed” on a screen can do no damage to the screen, as you can discontinue the display and restore the screen to a blank state for further displays. ”(Bea, 2016) In Basho, people have different opinions about gold, for example, my opinion about gold is wealth and chains. Many people are fighting for more gold. And the whole life of people fighting for gold is bound by gold. However, some panelists put forward a completely different view. They put a positive meaning on gold, which is everything in the world. The process of discussing gold in the group is also the process of giving the group members different ideas from each other. Finally, our group’s understanding of gold is to break stars and put them in the moon. This is a very romantic implication, broke my secular view of gold.

To sum up, in group work, I think I can get a lot of different knowledge, which is very different from the knowledge in books. These are collisions of ideas and expressions of good emotions.

Jiahui Li, this was a useful insight into your experiences in establishing the Green Basho and commencing your work across the activities on the course. A small suggestion I have is to include images/documentation of your work to identify where your contributions are and aid the reader when you are discussing specific aspects.
You did well to articulate some of the affective components of group working that can make the process challenging. I hope that the current agreements the basho made are maintainable across the course but it is good to check back in on how you are all feeling regarding this element of your working practice as the semester advances.
