Installation process:

It was the first time for curatorial installation, and I set the same time with yushan to meet up for the installation work.
First of all, the first problem we faced was that the door of the room was locked. Although we had made an appointment in advance, when we arrived at the site, various factors would lead to the installation work not going so smoothly. jl took us to find the logistics staff at the door, And pointed out that if you encounter similar phenomena again, you must go to the staff to open the door. This is very helpful for our installation and disassembly work. Compared with waiting hard, the efficiency has been improved a lot.

Location: Although we chose the classroom on the first floor, it is not an open classroom that many people cannot find. We posted posters of our childhood theme on the door of our classroom and on the pillars next to it to attract the audience.

Technically: the two of us don’t use many multimedia devices. I used a school classroom display screen and easily linked the multimedia works I want to show. Yushan has several videos to play and wants to display them on the table. I lent her my tablet for display, which is convenient and does not take up school equipment resources, leaving them for other students who need equipment.

In terms of layout: I discussed with yushan in advance, and divided the space and display area reasonably for the needs of my own works. It is a coincidence that what we need does not collide, and the styles and contents of each work are different. The side near the fireplace belongs to me, and the other side yushan needs to use the whole wall as a display. We made reasonable use of the space.
For installing and placing works on walls and tables, we chose double-sided tape, non-marking hooks, and scotch tape.

My own curation partly draws on the concept of “wrapping” in Christo’s “The Wrapped Arc de Triomphe”, which his nephew described his work as “He wanted to create a living object, and by blowing the folds, the appearance of the Arc de Triomphe It becomes something sensual.” I think that’s just right for this curation.
โžก๏ธTherefore, I chose the black wrapping paper in the express delivery as the wrapping material, and wrapped the fireplace for the following purposes: 1. To protect the wooden paint on the outer wall of the fireplace. 2. Using paper as recycling wrapping material can save environmental protection. 3. Although the work “Hippocampus” placed on the fireplace is a nostalgic and sad work, I hope that a small change can give it new meaning and life.Regarding the other works, I have chosen to use the method of displaying on the table, but the way of displaying each work is subtly different.

  • I chose to place gege wang’s “My Childhood” work in front of the fireplace, echoing the content of the work, and placed it under the work with black wrapping paper, which not only highlights the work but also echoes the work above the fireplace, both sad and Sad theme content.
  • I put the work “gift for mum” which was originally a physical book next to gege wang’s work and displayed it in the form of a computer. Although I didn’t get the physical book work, I hope to show it to the audience through the content, and this The work was created by myself, so I used a set of “fences” designed by myself to surround the computer for distinction.
  • Due to some personal reasons with the author of Xiaoyuan Wang, after many attempts, the designer did not come back from abroad, resulting in the work not being taken into reality, which is a pity, but I printed out the work and pasted it on a hard cardboard. In order to distinguish and better highlight the texture of this work, it is hung on the wall. It may be more attractive if this is a physical work.
  • As for the group of illustrations, they were fixed on the table and the wall with double-sided tape, and I displayed them on the table for easy viewing, and the other group was posted on the wall. This distinguishes two sets of illustrations with different styles.
  • In the final stop-motion animation multimedia video, I placed the multimedia display in the middle of the classroom, which can play a transitional role and guide the audience to transition to the different areas of me and yushan no matter which side they look at.

Space distribution in the meeting room: The table in the meeting room can be moved into two tables, which can divide our works very well. We moved the two tables to the walls on both sides to leave as much space as possible for to the audience. And tidy up the ground wires, and put the original conference room guidelines paper and microphone on the table in a fixed place so that they can be placed in the original place after the curation.
โžก๏ธJl gave us a suggestion during the installation, let us empty the classroom, so that it will be more clean and tidy. We put the extra chairs in the conference room in the large classroom next to it, and the regional placement does not affect other equipment in the classroom.

De-install process

Regarding disassembly, we still encountered the initial problem, and the door was locked again, but this time it was convenient for us to contact the logistics staff directly, and everything became much smoother.
During the disassembly process, Yushan and I worked together, and it was completed efficiently. The original meeting room chairs were moved to their original positions, and the items that originally belonged to the meeting room were also put back. In order to deal with it, we cleaned the meeting room, because we didn’t borrow a lot of school equipment, so there was no equipment return work involved.
