A brief history of China Northwest Airlines

Artist zhengyuan’s creative time is between fiction, documentation and investigative research, and the way of interpreting and re-presenting images has provided great inspiration for my creative practice.

The artist talked with Zhang Shengping, the director of an airport civil aviation television station, and learned the history of the development of civil aviation in the northwest, especially Lanzhou Airport and the northwest region, as well as his own personal experience.

 

From radar station to photographer, to TV station, and finally to archivist after the station disbanded, I also got a lot of information from him as a source of material for the film. From this project, I learned and referenced the narrative structure of archival film, allowing me to string an implicit thread into my own work as well, and, thus, choosing to combine interviews and sources.
