The Pickers (2009)

The picker

The pickers shows a group of Romanian immigrant workers on British strawberry farms who alternate between intensive strawberry picking and edit and mediate a film archive of British immigrant hop pickers in the 20th century. In parallel realities, distinctions about where and when events take place are blurred as they lie between the notions of labor and leisure and the identity of the archive and its dissemination. ‘Pickers’ become a dream; Romanian advert to British migrant workers coming to Romania.

Adam Chodzko’s art explores the interplay and possibilities of human behavior.

Having worked across media, from video installations to subtle interventions, and practiced in galleries and the wider public realm, I learned the importance of ARCHIVE from his films, whose work investigates and creates collectives through the use of the poetics of everyday life imaginary possibilities.

The visual representations shows how we interact with the presence of others.
