Following my work on creating soundscapes considering aural memories I decided to create a painting based on one my most prominent memories of sound, an infamous explosion in my hometown called the Buncefield explosion which occurred when an oil depot exploded. The blast and subsequent fire was the largest in the UK since the end of WWII and the blast was heard up to 40 miles away. I vividly remember not only the blast but driving through the industrial estate weeks late and the debris from the explosion on the floor, particularly the yellow insulating foam and metal cladding from warehouses and buildings. I decided to create this painting that depicted my aural memories of the event.
