Following feedback on my last piece of work that the sculpture resembled some form of sea life, I decided to create another sculpture in which I consciously chose to follow this theme with the same found object – recycled plastic bottles. I also chose to continue exploring the same concept of the transformation of form and material but with the look of ceramic sculpture in mind as opposed to glass work.

Images and detail images of the sculpture.

Another idea that informed this work was the relationship between object and image, using the plastic bottle as an image but in this work creating a relief sculpture against a flat board, rather than an installation style sculpture, hence creating what appears from particular view points an image rather than the three dimensional object it is.

This work was inspired by the appearance and texture of barnacles against the base of ships and boats but without literally representing the barnacle.
