We are in the final stages of the “theoretical” work at the moment, which means a rather busy schedule. Even though we have solidified our individual roles within the project, we communicate well with each other about the possible ideas we might have and their execution. As we are about to present for the second time to the Library staff, it is a great opportunity for us to nail down the theme of the project as well as various forms of expression it might take.
We had a few ideas relating to audience engagement, one of which is connected to the recipe books as something that everyone can relate to and most people have in their homes. I am right now working on the possible design for a digital version of a ‘recipe’ for an engaging survey. I would love people to have an opportunity to leave feedback about the exhibition, as well as to participate in a communal activity. In other words, they will not only be sharing with us their impression of the exhibition in a style resembling a recipe, but we also hope to give them an option of sharing an actual family recipe online. This will prompt them to think about the value of the written vs the typed words, as well as the communication of different formats (from books to tablets). Melanie created a website for our exhibition, where she will upload the recipes people will leave for us in the survey. This way our survey will have a physical and digital presence in this exhibition. Moreover, it will be exciting to see if there is any correlation between people who participated in the conversation corner and who wrote down a recipe for us to upload since it would imply that after actively participating in the exhibition, people are more open not only to leave feedback about the exhibition itself but also to talk to the organisers about more mundane topics, such as family recipes.
