The Great Escape

The Great Escape is a tale about me moving out for the first time and into a small run down council flat with my partner.

I moved to escape a difficult home life but the condition of the place I moved to made me wonder if I had made the right decision.

This piece is a re-creation of our stairs when we first moved in. The carpet grips had not been removed and were set in our concrete steps, and as we had no tools it took us a while to get them out. I fondly named them ‘danger stairs’ as we had to tip top carefully up and down them to avoid nails going through our feet. The walls on the stairs were also very damp and had mould growing up them.
