The Machine for Making Things Round (?)

Mig Welding – Attaching Legs

  • Podcast- Arc Junkies episode 140. Welding, Artwork and Blacksmithing with Kris Albro (@meltdownmetalart)
  • MIG welding
  • TIG welding – easy to change the inner filament so used for  metals other than steel.
  • Spot welding – good for connecting two pieces of sheet metal, however you can’t use it to connect bar to sheet metal.

Forge

  • Making a taper
  • Bending – keeping things uniform
  • limitations with the size of the forge
  • Coke forge – difference between using this and a gas forge –
    • Heat levels differ – here you have the risk of over heating metal and potentially loosing small sections to the coals if heated for too long, something that is not a risk with gas forges which stay at a specific temperature.
    • With a large scale coke forge you can effectively heat any section of the metal you want to, with the uni’s gas forge the size is quite limiting as you can only heat the end of a rod.
    • You can do forge welding (?) with a coke forge, something not possible with a gas forge as they don’t get hot enough?

Working from Home

  • Soldering — Flux !! very important
  • Blowtorch
