Covid-19 has been declared by the UN secretary general to be the greatest challenge the world faces since WW2. This is an internal University of Edinburgh call, supported by all three of our Colleges. It is intended to deliver urgent research and partnership building to deliver new knowledge and impact to better understand, prepare for and treat patients with Covid-19. It is specifically for research that is considering the impact of the disease on LMICs and how these resource poor or highly unequal countries can better prepare for and treat the disease in their contexts.
The longer-term focus must be on how ultimately lower income or vulnerable populations in these countries will benefit.
We are very keen to support research across all Colleges looking at understanding the disease and its clinical and social impact and how these can be addressed.
