SFC-GCRF internal funding available for Covid-19 research

Dr Conor Snowden, International Development Research Manager, Edinburgh Research Office highlights internal funding available for University of Edinburgh researchers to help address the impact of Covid-19 on low and middle income countries.
Covid-19 has been declared by the UN secretary general to be the greatest challenge the world faces since WW2.  Edinburgh Research Office, through the International Development Research Hub, is making available a proportion of its Scottish Funding Council GCRF Funding for urgent research activity into the understanding and treatment of the disease in low and middle income countries (LMICs).

About the call

University of Edinburgh researchers can apply for grants of up to £100,000 for short-term projects which address the impact of Covid-19 on low and middle income countries.
Assessment of proposals will take place rapidly and projects can start from 20 April 2020. Projects should end by 10 July 2020.
The deadline for applications is 15 April 2020, 10am.
This is an internal University of Edinburgh call, supported by all three of our Colleges. It is intended to deliver urgent research and partnership building to deliver new knowledge and impact to better understand, prepare for and treat patients with Covid-19. It is specifically for research that is considering the impact of the disease on LMICs and how these resource poor or highly unequal countries can better prepare for and treat the disease in their contexts.
The longer-term focus must be on how ultimately lower income or vulnerable populations in these countries will benefit.
We are very keen to support research across all Colleges looking at understanding the disease and its clinical and social impact and how these can be addressed.
