The Rain Within The Rainbow is led by me, Dr Hazel Marzetti. I am a suicide researcher at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Health in Social Sciences. I have a long-term interest in LGBTQ+ suicide and completed my PhD on the subject of LGBTQ+ young people’s suicidal thoughts and attempts in Scotland (supervised by Prof Lisa McDaid, Prof Rich Mitchell and Prof Rory O’Connor, at the University of Glasgow). I also led specialist work on LGBTQ+ suicide prevention as part of the Leverhulme funded Suicide in/as Politics project (led by Prof Amy Chandler and Dr Ana Jordan). Outside of work I love reading, crafting, gardening, watching trashy TV shows, and walking my very lovely dog.
Heads up about halfway through the second year of this project I will be recruiting for a post-doctoral researcher to join me – so watch this space! In the meantime I am supported by a fantastic (and growing) advisory board:
- Rebecca Hoffman, LGBT Health and Wellbeing
- Jess Worner, National Suicide Prevention Alliance
- Paul Daly, LGBT Youth Scotland
- Rob Kelly, Public Health Scotland
- Dr Felix Turney, The Kite Trust
- Dr Brendan Dunlop, NHS & University of Manchester
- Prof Liz McDermott, University of Birmingham
- Prof Rory O’Connor, University of Glasgow
- Prof Yvette Taylor, Strathclyde University
- Prof John Oliffe, University of British Colombia
- Dr Ian Marsh, Cantebury Christ Church University
We also have seven lived experience advisors who are essential for steering and shaping this project.
Currently our lived experience advisors are primarily based in England and Wales, if you are based in Wales or Northern Ireland, and would be interested in joining our Lived Experience Advisory Board we would be keen to hear from you! Just email hazel.marzetti@ed.ac.uk
