Our recent Elsie Stephenson Memorial Lecture was a great success, bringing together colleagues, students, researchers and practitioners to reflect on the enduring legacy of Elsie Stephenson and the future of nursing research.

This year’s lecture was delivered by Professor Lynn Calman, who explored the ongoing challenges facing clinical practitioners seeking to engage meaningfully with research and develop clinical academic careers in nursing. Reflecting on Elsie Stephenson’s pioneering contributions, Lynn highlighted both the significant progress made since Elsie’s time and the barriers that still remain today. Drawing on her extensive experience, she discussed how these challenges can be addressed and shared her thoughts on strengthening sustainable pathways that better integrate clinical practice with academic research.
