A visit from Hugh Masters

The MSc in Advancing Nursing Practice were treated to a visit from Hugh Masters, Associate Chief Nursing Officer from the Scottish Government.
Hugh met with students on a theme of inspiration and leadership, and this proved to be a great topic for a really fruitful discussion for the international group of students.
‘The meeting with Hugh Masters last week was a great experience for us and a huge opportunity to listen the views of a well experienced and successful professional. The valuable discussion with Hugh made me think over of some issues related to my academic process. For instance, Hugh mentioned that you must know what is that you really want to do and think about how this might help you in the next few years. Having this in mind, I have started thinking with a different perspective about my options and plans and begun modifying them according to my needs. Furthermore, the discussion has inspired me to work harder and continuously in order to achieve my goals’
Michael, MSc ANP Student
‘I was so inspired by the stories that he told us about how he start his career, how a sad event can be a positive thing and make us better person’
Amira, MSc ANP Student
The students were faced with statements from Hugh such as ‘take the risk’, ‘keep your eyes open’ and ‘that time is mine’, which has inspired the students to think differently as he has done and to take the chances around us for development.
‘According to him the secret was hard work and this made me realise that it didn’t matter if I had all degrees with distinction (not that it’s not important) but the most important thing is hard work and giving my very best, taking risks and being opened minded to all opportunities’
Christelle, MSc ANP Student
Thanks Hugh!
