Two siblings looked exactly the same, although, truth be told, it was hard to tell for sure due to their beardless faces being obscured by mist. They both said they come from the same fathomless pool, the really doomed one on the other side of town. They had the same surname and middle name, and their distinctive first name was also the same. They both had all the same formal behavior for all occasions, same etiquette, ‘zact same routines. They were consecrated the same way and had the same prescribed attitudes towards you-know-what. They endured the same typo in their forename (missing the crucial letter ’s’) that made it into one of the most offensive words in our language. Not that it mattered: neither could speak, neither could understand language. Each had a small circle in their belly connected abruptly to their head by a no-nonsense vertical line; this made both of them reliably immune. When they died of natural causes – at the same time – they were both devoured by mourners as part of their preferred funeral rites.
Actually, the more I think about it, everything about them really was exactly the same.
Not sure I understand exactly what’s going on here. Why were they exactly the same? They the same person? They twins? I don’t know. It is a mystery. No, I do know. Yes! They were twins.
