Edinburgh University Lifestyle Medicine Society (EULMS) provides opportunities for like-minded individuals to share their passion for all aspects of lifestyle medicine, through education and discussion.
What is lifestyle medicine?
Lifestyle medicine is a modern medical discipline, based on the understanding that surgical techniques and pharmaceuticals can only go so far to cure the society’s current health needs. Improvements to lifestyle are ultimately the foundation of transforming the population’s health and reducing the prevalence of chronic disease.
Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based practice, focusing on six pillars:
- physical activity
- sleep
- nutrition
- mental wellbeing
- healthy relationships
- minimising harmful substances.
What does EULMS do?
We hope to highlight the role of lifestyle medicine in the future sustainability of our healthcare system. We recently held an event with an Edinburgh-based GP about practicalities of prescribing movement to patients. Our strong links to the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine allow us to hold events with other lifestyle medicine societies across the UK.
