Making a musical

Making a musical

Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am one of the directors for this year’s Medics Musical. I am writing this in the middle of our rehearsal for our big number for the end of act one, and I should probably be concentrating slightly harder.

Sarah sitting with a bag and bottle of water in front of a vast expanse of water and buildings on the far side.We have come a long way since the formation of the production committee in August last year where the top idea was also called The Western (front)- probably best that one was nixed quick. After some quite *ahem* heated discussion we managed to find our footing quick and before we knew it we had a somewhat decent script on our hands (kudos goes out to our head writer Joe, whose lines I critiqued mercilessly- it’s a miracle we are still friends). After days and weeks of revisions and some more heated debate we had the script that you will know and hopefully love.

After this, rehearsals started with main cast. Everyone has begun getting to know their characters and slowly gain confidence which is lovely to see. We usually meet in the seminar rooms in the law library which I’m sure everyone trying to study law around us really loves. This practice we are doing our first rehearsal with the full chorus and its starting to seem really real. I hope it turns out to be as good as we all want it to be!

Our musical begins in the aftermath of our classes’ finals. Everyone is excited to finally be done with med school and leave for their electives across the world. However, it would be prudent to say that these electives may not go exactly as planned… So, take a look through this yearbook and get to know the characters that might, just might, be the stars of our show.

Our show is going to be in the great Traverse Theatre this year. We are doing four shows in total; the evenings of April 17, 19 and 19 – with an extra matinee show on the Saturday 19 April. Tickets are available from Friday 28 February so snatch them up while you still can!

Medic’s Musical Class of 2026: the ones to watch (but not necessarily for the right reasons)

Tallulah Stewart “Tilly”

Tilly wearing sunglasses on head and speaking on mobile phone. Most likely to: hide the fact she went to private school
Career ambitions: part time GP, part time holistic health coach, full time yummy mummy

Hello all! My name is Tilly, and you might know me from my YouTube channel “Clean girl aesthetic| DITL medical student| apple cider vinegar ambassador”. It’s a source of great inspiration for lots of young girls (my Tiny Tilly’s (trademark pending)) who want to grow up to be just like me- effortlessly cute and super smart in a way that they, like, don’t even know it. Many other people also look up to me as I always remember to put loose wavey curls in my hair before placement with my Dyson air wrap to complete that effortlessly chic look. I can’t wait to get to Los Angeles and really vibe with the culture and laid-back spirit of the place. Oh, and I guess maybe a little medicine if I am not t0o busy in hot yoga class.

Archibald Hickman Spencer-Cholmondeley “Hicksy”

Hicksy wearing shirt and tweed jacket. Most likely to: cheeky pint with the old nanny (my father already had a pop at her, so she’s fair game)
Career ambitions: private medicine

Hi chaps! You might know me as the devilishly handsome medics rugby captain, or by the fact that I am also eminently much smarter than most of our despicable cohort. Despite being so ridiculously good looking and also coming from an upper-class family, I am also tremendously humble. I would also like to address the rumours- I am not actually royalty; Princess Eugenie is just a close personal friend (if you chaps know what I mean). So yah, I can’t wait to be done with this medical school trouble and finally focus on what matters- being rich and famous in the land of the free.

Olivia Gough-Wilde “Liv” “Liv Laugh Love”

Liv smiling at camera with blonde curly hair and green top. Most likely to: We went to Miami just to meet Dr Miami
Career ambitions: Being Dr Miami

What’s the crack guys? You might know me as the girl who has been kicked out of every club in the Cowgate due to that incident with squirty cream, several metres of tarp and a blow torch. I’ve spent the last 6 years preforming the dastardliest shenanigans and tomfoolery, and I cannot wait to carry on the party in Miami. Seriously, I cannot wait to keep these good vibes going! Alexa, play Despacito!!

Bryony standing with stethoscope around neck, glasses on and arms folded.Bryony Allan “too serious to have a nickname”

Career ambitions: to be the best chief of cardiothoracic surgery that this university has ever seen
Most likely to: know every factor in both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways and patronise you for not knowing it

I think a yearbook is a ridiculous waste of time and I refuse to write a bio. No, silly, don’t write that down, I told you I’m not doing it. Are you mentally deficient, I’m clearly not telling you what to put I’m telling you this yearbook is a stupid endeavour when you could be increasing your knowledge of recent cardiothoracic advancements. Seriously, sometimes I wonder how you made it this far as you clearly don’t have a single thought in that large head of yours. Don’t print this, you imbecile.
