Behind the scenes: Making a musical

Sam Bresland wearing a toga smilingIn legend, long ago… there stood a hospital on Mount Olympus. In a golden age of gods and extraordinary medical students, the greatest of these students was Hercules: son of Zeus.

Caught in the midst of Zeus and Hera’s marital spat, our hero must race against time to complete his trials and earn the right to graduate! Join him as he contends with the pantheon of god-consultants and confronts his destiny in The Clinical Trials of Hercules!

Featuring hits adapted from some of the best-known and loved musicals: the modern sensations, the classics, Disney, Grease, Moulin Rouge, Mulan, the Book of Mormon …

And many more!

Hi I’m Sam Bresland, Year 5 student and ‘Executive Producer’

I have the pleasure of coordinating preparations for the show in my role as a producer. A lot of what I do is taking care of the mundane, behind-the-scenes, emailing stuff, but the best bit of this job is watching all the aspects of this project grow and develop from the ground up. There is so much talent involved and I spend much of my time in rehearsals in quiet awe.

Over the last nine months, our directing and writing teams, headed by creative director Erin Bushe, have produced a fantastic original script. Rehearsals with our cast of 40 performers are well underway. Our musical director, Shona Hutton, has overseen the arrangement of hours’ worth of scores and our production team is on track to create the most ambitious costumes and set in Medics’ Musical history. It’s all coming together, and all in aid of local charity Health In Mind.

So, stay tuned, follow our social media, and we hope to see you in the Pleasance Theatre during show week!
