Top tips for looking after yourself

The WellMed committee share their top tips for looking after yourself.student and cat

For those who are new or not sure who we are, WellMed is a student led group designed to improve wellbeing in the Medical School and beyond. We do everything from therapets to advocating and educating for change and de-stigmatisation towards mental illness.  For now though, here are our top tips for looking after yourself from our committee:

Heather (president): “Self care shouldn’t be seen as a luxury or a treat but fundamental to living well. Do what you feel is best for you rather than worrying what you should do because everyone else does. It can be as simple as drinking your favourite tea or bailing on that night out for a movie in bed.”

Daniel (treasurer): “Make an effort to see your friends, even if it’s just for lunch or to work together because it’s nice to spend time with people and it can make a bad day so much better to have a laugh and smile with people you care about.”

Treeve (resources): “To keep happy and positive, every night I write down one thing good thing that happened that day. It’s a constructive way to build reflection, realise the things that matter most to you, and remember to look on the bright side of life!”students drinking coffee

Kat (activities): “Always remember to take ten minutes in the day for yourself to read a book or listen to music – do something you enjoy!”

Jemima (discussions): “Self care doesn’t have to mean meditating or long bubble baths – small things like making your bed as soon as you get up and having breakfast every day can lay the foundation for taking care of yourself in everything else you do.”
