Get to grips with your workload

Photo of EunsooHi I’m Eunsoo and I’m just about start Year 2.

The best bit about living in Edinburgh is that everything is close enough together that you can walk pretty much anywhere. It’s a beautiful town with pretty buildings which makes for lovely walks wherever you go, and the Meadows and Arthur’s Seat are perfect for taking a break from city life.

Balancing your work load

Medicine is different to school: no one chases you up on due work or checks that you’re keeping up with the material. While I thought the biggest problem would be not doing enough work, I’ve learnt that it’s equally important to not overwork. You get thrown a lot of information at once and it’s crucial to be able to identify what is important and relevant to learn at your stage, and what to filter out or learn less well.

Try some sport

I joined university badminton which was great for meeting people outside the course, but medic sports is also a really nice way to do some sport on a more casual basis.

Enjoying Welcome Week

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with everything that’s going on but you don’t have to stress about missing one particular event. There is a lot happening but it just means that there’s a wide choice of things to get involved in so you’ll definitely find something for you!

Packing tips

Don’t worry about packing absolutely everything – remember there are shops in Edinburgh too! The less stuff you have to move the better.
