The Edinburgh University Trauma and Orthopaedics Society (EUTOS) provides an engaging group environment for students interested in the specialty.
As a member, you benefit from organised tutorials and teaching sessions in the lead-up to exams, as well as a comprehensive question bank, which we are currently forming.
On top of the tutorials and teaching, we run a range of interactive workshop sessions, including Core Skills in Trauma, a suturing series and a plastering tutorial. These events provide a great way to get hands-on with key aspect of trauma and orthopaedics, and with the guidance from surgical trainees, it allows you to better your dexterity skills – something which is hugely important for T&O!
This year will mark the eighth National Undergraduate Trauma and Orthopaedics Conference. Over the past few years, EUTOS has grown this event to a national scale, attracting students from all over the UK. It provides an opportunity to engage with students from all years. We feature talks from guest speakers, including major trauma surgeons from across the country and a guide to specialty training application from one of our local trainees.
We are forming a mentoring scheme within EUTOS this year, where younger students can be paired with a senior student for guidance and help with everything orthopaedics related. Encouraging the next group or T&O surgeons is a key aspect for us and across this academic year, we aim to provide a huge number of experiences to grow your interest in trauma and orthopaedics.
