Radiology Society

Society logoEdinburgh University Radiology Society aims to widen engagement in radiology throughout medical school. We arrange various tutorials and events to teach and consolidate radiology knowledge. These are aimed at all medical students, and not just those interested in specialising in radiology in the future.

Each year, we run a tutorial to introduce first years to X-rays. Among other things, people who attend will learn a systematic way of interpreting chest X-rays. This event is extremely popular and feedback has included ‘really useful’ and ‘more events like this please’.

We also organise a series of tutorials which explore different body systems using imaging techniques such as CT, MRI and ultrasound. Each talk is delivered by a radiology specialty trainee and is particularly useful for students who have already covered the body systems in lectures.

Another key event is RiiSE, a conference with a range of speakers, including those who specialise in interventional radiology. This sub-specialty involves the use of imaging techniques to carry out minimally-invasive procedures that play either a diagnostic or therapeutic role. The day also provides general career advice so can be very useful for those interested in specialising in radiology.

We will probably have to have a slightly different approach this year but we’re excited to bring these events to you again. Hopefully we’ll see both new and familiar faces.
