MedAID

MedAID logoStudent MedAID is a society and charity that collects unwanted and out of date, but viable medical equipment from hospitals in Edinburgh, and more recently, throughout the UK. We then redistribute it to under-resourced medical institutions abroad through the help of medical students on electives, humanitarian health workers and other NGOs.

Our initiative provides a platform to bridge the gap between waste in the NHS and shortage of medical equipment in resource-limited settings.

We believe sustainability is essential to healthcare and aim to advocate for reduced healthcare inequalities worldwide. Together with our partners, we have delivered equipment to up to 11 countries throughout the world, ranging from refugee camps to hospitals to communities in need. Our ambitious, long-term goal hopes to change the way the NHS operates. We have begun to do this by presenting at medical conferences and giving talks at departmental meetings in local hospitals.

We are hoping to create a network of students, healthcare professionals and members of the public throughout the UK who are passionate about making a difference and have recently helped the opening of a new sister organisation in Leeds. We are hoping to follow this up with new MedAID branches in Dundee and Oxford in the upcoming months.

Our society is formed of a tight-knit family of individuals who are committed to this cause. We are always open to motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team from collecting equipment to redistributing it abroad, to simply raising awareness of our work.
