Hi everyone!
We’re a slightly niche society that hopes to increase student interest in and increase exposure to cardiac and thoracic surgery. We aim to teach specific surgical skills related to cardiothoracic surgery, such as chest drain insertion, vessel anastomosis and much more.
We also realise that first year can be a wee bit stressful and that it can be tough to get your head around certain topics in anatomy and physiology. As a result, we’ve also developed some academic tutorials and will run revision sessions to augment your teaching in cardiology and respiratory medicine.
Excitingly, this will include the use of animal tissue to give you a much more hands-on experience with your learning. In addition to this, we will be hosting a couple of interesting career talks throughout the academic year from surgeons in the field. Finally, we’re looking forward to running a national conference this November, with the aim of giving surgical stations, talks and workshops. We know that our events will be a fantastic opportunity for you all to explore the specialty and your future career options.
We can’t wait to see you there!
