BAME Medics

BAME Medics

BAME Medics logoBAME medics is a student run group for all BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic group) medical students at the University of Edinburgh.

We are here to support you with any issues you may face as a BAME student during your time at medical school. We work as a flat organisation structure – no hierarchy or weird power dynamics – just an open forum where we can all get our voices heard.

We are also organising a new mentors programme, where self-identifying BAME 1st and 2nd year medics can sign up to be given a 4th/5th year mentor! This person would arrange meet-ups to chat about any issues you have, help you academically with topics you’re unsure of, introduce you to friends and communities, and provide you with contacts should you have any problems at uni. By doing this, we hope to give younger BAME students a better sense of belonging at the medical school overall! You can find out more by visiting our Instagram, and by looking at both our google form and list of mentors below.

We are also working with the Medical School faculty to make the Medical School a better and safer space to support their BAME students, be it through discussing issues within the medical curriculum and encouraging healthy conversation about race within the Medical School. If you are looking for some support and kindness we are always here to listen too. Expect some exciting events throughout the semester.

Hope to see you all soon!
