As a society, Edinburgh University Medical Education Society focuses on providing learning support to Edinburgh medical students through peer assisted learning schemes. Our buddy-mentor programmes pair students from different year groups for informal teaching in pre-clinical medicine and during intercalation.
We also organise a range of tutorials on clinical skills and core content for all year groups. As doctors, we will be expected to teach throughout our careers and medical school is a great opportunity to practise these skills as a tutor/mentor and to get feedback.
Within the next few years, some groups will have the opportunity to apply to the new Undergraduate Certificate in Medical Education which will formally recognise the teaching that they are involved in!
We also advertise opportunities for getting involved in research on medical education. Although we are an independent society, we feedback directly to the MSC. We do not have any membership requirements and all Edinburgh medical students are welcome at our tutorials and events!
