Mason Institute Student Essay Competition 2023-24 Winners

We are delighted to announce the winners of the 2023-2024 academic year Mason Institute Essay Competition! After many excellent submissions, the panel awarded first- and second-place winners in the undergraduate category and first-, second-, and third-place winners in the postgraduate category. Kaleb Connell, 4th year LLB Law student at the University of Edinburgh

Kaleb graduated from the University of Edinburgh in July 2024 with First Class Honours and is currently pursuing the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Aberdeen.

Lucy Florence, 2nd year LLB Law student at the University of Bristol.

Lucy is continuing her legal studies at the University of Bristol and hopes to pursue a career specialising in either medical or family law.

Postgraduate Category

Manini Manushi Gangal, LLM in Human Rights Law, University of Bristol

Manini has recently completed her Human Rights Law LLM at the University of Bristol, where she focussed on the issues that detrimentally affect access to justice and healthcare for minoritised individuals. An aspiring human rights barrister, Manini hopes to use her future practice to protect vulnerable communities from institutional marginalisation and inequity.

Claire McGoldrick, LLM in Medical Law & Ethics, University of Edinburgh

Claire has recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh, obtaining an LLM with Distinction in Medical Law and Ethics. Her studies were conducted online while simultaneously working as a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Claire’s main clinical interest is in blood-borne virus infection and she is also heavily involved with medical education. Through her observations that Medical Law and Ethics permeates deeply through all aspects of her work, she made a decision to pursue this LLM.
