Sugar for your Tea was installed in January 2020 on the facade of Edinburgh’s city chambers. Kayus Bankole’s powerful piece connects the the names of enslaved Africans with the built heritage of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. It reminds us of the connections between the Transatlantic slave trade, the institutions of white privilege in Scotland, and the legacies of power that are still associated with this in the present day.
