Love to Read

Love to Read

Co-designing a programme, with children and teachers, to inspire and sustain a love of reading

Take Part!

UK children’s reading enjoyment and engagement are at their lowest levels since 2005, with only 29% of children in the UK reporting they enjoy reading compared to 42% internationally.  Further, only 32.8% of UK children aged 8-11 report reading regularly outside class.  Given the significant intellectual, educational, social, and emotional benefits associated with book reading, supporting children’s reading enjoyment and engagement is essential.

The Love to Read programme draws upon research informed principles to support children’s reading enjoyment, motivation and engagement.  The programme was co-created by researchers, teachers, and children, and demonstrated evidence of promise in its initial evaluation in 2022.  Following this, the Nuffield Foundation have funded a randomised controlled trial of this 12-week programme in schools in England and we are looking for primary schools (Years 4-6) in London and Liverpool (and surrounding areas) to take part.

Participating schools will receive a £2,000 book voucher as a thank you for participation, and costs associated with programme delivery.
