Reading Time: 2 minutes

This post provides a summary of the upcoming changes including those features which we have highlighted due to their impact. For more in depth technical detail additional details are available on the release page

Highlights for this release include:

Exemptions

You can now provide exemptions to students for particular items, students are not required to complete an exempted item but can still submit.  When exempted, a student’s overall calculation will adjust for them. The overall points possible or weighting for a student with exemptions may change compared to other students.

Instructors may exempt any Gradebook item in two ways:

  • From the submission list view, select the ellipsis menu of a student and choose to add or edit the exemption.
  • From the student detail view, select the ellipsis menu of the item and choose to add or edit the exemption.

When exempting an item, the item will not be:

  • included in the overall grade calculation,
  • marked late for students who do not make a submission, or
  • assigned an automatic zero.

You can find more details and screenshots depicting the exemption process on the details page

Show Course Group Members

Instructors now have the option to choose to ‘Show Members’ off a group from the groups settings options. This will allow members of that group to view who else is in their group. Members can only see who is in their group. Blackboard have stated that they intend to allow messaging within groups in the future but have not provided a date as yet. More information can be found on the details page
