Useful information for studying Japanese language

Information on Japanese language self-study resources as well as summer programmes (fee-paying) in Japan

All the summer programmes are fee-paying and outside of our exchange contracts, and we won’t be able to provide any support for your application preparation nor finance (you must pay for the participation fee, accommodation, travel costs etc by yourself).

 

1. Doshisha

We are pleased to announce that the Center for Global Education and Japanese Studies

will organize Doshisha Summer Session 2026 from July to August 2026.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could share the below information with your students.

 

Doshisha Summer Session 2026 is a 4-week program takes place in Kyoto,

where the Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus is located.

In addition to intensive Japanese language study,

students will deepen their understanding of Kyoto and Japanese culture through a variety of cultural experience programs and classes.

Doshisha volunteer students will participate in classes as study partners to support your Japanese language study.

Why don’t you study in Kyoto, the center of Japanese culture, with students from all over the world?

We are looking forward to seeing lots of students there!

3. Akita International University

AIU’s Summer Program is a six-week, six-credit, intensive Japanese language and culture workshop program designed for highly motivated undergraduate students around the world. Participants can take elementary courses taught by experienced Japanese instructors to hone their Japanese language skills in a small class environment.

 

Program date: Tuesday, June 16, 2026 – Friday, July 24, 2026

The Program Fee includes room & board (3 meals per day at AIU), bedding, room cleaning, and field trips. In addition to the Program Fee, students must pay for travel expenses from their point of origin to Akita, lunch during the bus trip (one trip only), personal and daily expenses and insurance.

Exchange Students* 260,000 JPY
Fee-Paying Students** 390,000 JPY

Eligibility: cumulative GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above.

5. Hokkaido University (non-Japanese language programme)

 

We are delighted to inform you that Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) 2026 information is now available on the website. 

In 2025, more than 130 world-leading researchers from overseas will provide various lectures with our university’s faculty members during the summer for the HSI.

154 courses (108 graduate courses and 46 undergraduate courses) will be offered in 2025 summer. Each course conducted in English is worth 1 or 2 academic credits. Most of the courses run for one or two weeks, so students can tailor their own summer program by combining courses according to their major, interests and their schedule. Many courses have an option of online format.
